Forest School Leadership Training

Down to Earth Forest School are delighted to welcome Huathe to Brigit's Garden in September 2018 for Forest School Leadership Training.

The training runs over 8 days and includes and at least 110 hours of self-study over approximately 9 months.

During the training you will gain knowledge in:

  • Learning and development at Forest School

  • Practical skills for Forest School

  • Woodland environment at Forest School

  • Planning a Forest School programme

  • Woodland skills

  • Nature activities

  • Knot tying

  • Policies and procedures

  • The principles and history of forest school

During the self-study period (October-April) you will:

  1. Plan and deliver a six week Forest School programme with a group of children that includes practical activities based on reflective assessment.
  2. Complete practical workbooks supporting the delivery and development of Forest School.
  3. Create other materials demonstrating your understanding of both learning theory and woodland environments.

This course is appropriate for anyone 21 or over with at least Level 2 in youth work, childcare, teaching or at least 2 years’ experience working with children. You will need to have Garda vetting and to hold or acquire a 16 hour outdoor paediatric first aid certificate. (This is not included in the course price.)

Work Schedule & Details

There will be practical and theoretical study at Brigit's Garden on September 22th - 25th and October 17th - 19th. In between October and April will be time for self-study and to plan and facilitate your 6 pilot sessions and complete your assessments and workbook. On April 6th-7th you will hand in your workbooks.

Qualification

Upon completion of the course you will receive a 3rd level qualification by the Open College Network, which is internationally recognized and is equivalent to a FETAC Level 5.
