Glassilaun Beach - Glasoileán (Green Island)
No matter which direction your eye takes you, you are looking at one of nature’s masterpieces at Glassilaun Beach in Connemara. This beautiful unspoilt white sandy beach is breath-taking, no matter the weather.
Mweelrea (Maol Réidh), at 814m is Connacht’s highest mountain, and this magnificent peak towers over the Glassilaun Beach. At the other end of the horseshoe bay you can take a stroll out to a little green island and explore its rocky outcrop. Mind how you time it though, you will have to wait for low tide.
Where is Glassilaun Beach?
Leaving Brigit’s Garden, continue travelling north along the N59 and turn right after Recess. You will reach the village of Tullycross, near Renvyle. There is only one junction in this village so take the road down to the right. Just when you think you can’t go any further, keep going! Glassilaun beach is at the end of this road. There is room to park (although if the weather is hot, there may be a scarcity of car spots).
