Invitation to join the Board of Trustees of Brigit’s Garden 2021
Brigit’s Garden is an innovative not-for-profit and a registered charity on an attractive 11-acre site in Co. Galway with Celtic gardens, rich natural habitats and a visitor centre. Brigit's Garden is committed to a sustainable future where both people and biodiversity flourish. The Gardens are an inspiring place to visit and learn about nature, sustainability and Celtic mythology; we run education programmes in ecology, nature connection and science for all ages, and we hold seasonal celebrations, events and weekly meditation.
Brigit’s Garden has a full time Director and employs 14 people, some part-time and seasonal. It also has a committed group of volunteers and attracts over 25,000 visitors a year.
The Trustees are seeking to expand the Board. We would like to invite applications from friends and supporters who wish to play an active role in supporting the strategic development of the project. Information on the gardens and the range of activities we offer in education, environment, tourism and events is available here on our website.
Why do we need new Trustees?
Brigit's Garden is run by a voluntary Board of Trustees which works closely with the Director. The Trustees and the Director recognise that additional expertise would strengthen the governance of Brigit's Garden and enable the development of the project.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for energetic people who would like to play a part in the governance and development of Brigit's Garden. We have identified a need for additional Trustees with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
· not-for-profit business development
· environment, ecology, practical sustainability
· education and training (particularly with the QQI framework for development, recognition and awarding of qualifications)
Why get involved?
'Being a Trustee and part of the support team at Brigit's Garden is an enriching experience - it's such a creative, visionary project that gives endless pleasure to so many people and is a fantastic resource for the local area and wider Galway community. When I became involved, it really helped to develop my team skills and has given me invaluable experience in the workings of a social enterprise. I'm excited about seeing the project evolve and look forward to welcoming new Trustees onto the Board.'
What's the commitment?
The Trustees take an active interest in the project and attend meetings every 6-8 weeks, virtually and/or in Brigit’s Garden. There is a contribution to travel expenses for meetings.
Trustees’ roles and responsibilities
Trustees are responsible for all aspects of the governance and management of Brigit’s Garden. They also act as the Directors for Brigit’s Garden Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG).
