20th Birthday Celebrations

It is hard to believe that we are celebrating our 20th birthday this summer!

The changes since 2004 have been wonderful to see. That first year we welcomed about 4,000 visitors, last year the figure was over 27,000. So many activities have grown from nothing – schools programmes, group tours, weddings, family events, seasonal celebrations and more – and the visitor centre and café have grown with them, from the initial single room that housed everything.

As part of our celebrations, we’re holding special events, activities and perks throughout the year. Keep reading!

International Brigits' Gallery

Calling everyone named Brigit, Brigid, Bridie, Breege, Breda or any version of Brigit… any spelling and even if it’s your middle name!

We would like to invite you to join our International Brigits’ Gallery by adding your photo to a special feature hanging on our reception wall.

With Brigit, goddess and saint, so much at the heart of our activities, we found a special way to honour her as part of our 20th birthday celebrations.

To join our gallery, just drop in to the Garden and we will take your photo. If you visit in person, we will also give you free entry to the Garden!

Alternatively, feel free to email us a photo of you, just ensure you use a white background, include your name as it should appear and where you’re from. Please email them to: theresa@brigitsgarden.ie.

We will be posting photos of the feature periodically, showing off all our lovely Brigits – see image 1 here with our first few Brigits!

Artists in Brigit’s Garden 2024

As part of our 20th birthday celebrations, Brigit’s Garden extended an invitation to visual artists to spend time in the gardens, respond to the themes and create work for an exhibition to be held from 5th to 20th October 2024.

We were thrilled to have received over 60 applications! It was a difficult decision but we managed to extend offers to 30 applicants to join our exhibition. Thank you to all who applied – there was an exceptionally high standard! The application period is now closed.

These 30 visual artists, working in any media – 2D or 3D, are welcome to visit the garden free of charge to create their work and submit it for consideration in the exhibition and for sale. Perhaps you’ll see them working away in the Garden during your next visit.

We look forward to updating you on their progress throughout the summer.

NEW Garden: The Garden of Contemplation

We’re excited to announce plans for our new garden!

Located adjacent to the mound that houses the “Stone Chamber”, the Garden of Contemplation will nestle into the landscape as a hidden subterranean garden. This space is inspired by the “Holy Well”, many of which are associated with Brigit. Sacred wells were places of pilgrimage, destinations that could be springs or tranquil pools of water thought to have healing properties.

Celts believed they were homes to goddesses. To this day people will still journey to a well for healing or guidance. They are often places of serenity within a setting characterised by an ethereal atmosphere.

Pre-Christian mythology expressed that the springs that filled the wells originated in the ‘Otherworld’; a parallel universe
that was believed to be a source of wisdom and of power.

Birthday Celebrations

Garden Party

Our celebrations have included a good measure of partying!

We held a Garden Party with founders, donors and friends as a special thank you for all their support over the years.

We enjoyed music, poems, songs and inspiration!

Staff Party

We also enjoyed hosting current and previous staff for a special night of appreciation, catching-up and celebrating!

It was lovely seeing so many old friends, some from the very beginning.
