Post-primary School & Youth Groups

The Global Goals Challenge

The Global Goals Challenge is an engaging, interactive workshop based on the United Nation’s Global Goals, offered in cooperation with WorldWise Global Schools. It equips young people with the tools and information needed to be active global citizens and is suitable for 1st – 3rd year and Transition Year students.

Global Citizenship Education

The Challenge Comprises:

  • 3-hour interactive workshop at Brigit’s Garden
  • 1-hour follow-up session about a month later in school, either in person or via Zoom, with one of our facilitators

At the on-site workshop, students divide into teams and role-play a family in a developing country seeking refuge and having to work together to overcome obstacles and find solutions to a series of challenges. Each challenge is linked to one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals relating to food scarcity, water issues, energy, the effects of climate change and the experience of migration. Students also learn about energy use and experiment with solar and kinetic renewable energy. Each challenge involves hands-on activities and requires each team to cooperate and think creatively.

Brigit’s Garden provides ideal surroundings, and the workshop is mainly held outdoors in the Celtic Gardens, varied habitats and Sustainability Zone. We also have excellent indoor facilities and covered areas for lunchbreaks and wet weather.

The workshop is very engaging for students and builds the six key skills of junior cycle. It encourages discussion and debate on many pertinent global issues that are also relevant to Ireland.

Before your visit we send a short video to show in the classroom to prepare students for the workshop. To help embed the learning and encourage follow-up projects in school, we also offer a one-hour follow-up session with one of our facilitators, either in person or via Zoom.
